Day 5: DeVos/DeNO

Day 5 Action:

**As is always – take the actions that are important and meaningful to your family and your beliefs. But if that includes making your voice heard regarding your opinion on the nomination of Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education then here’s your chance!

Call your Senators at 202-225-3121 (main switchboard) and ask to be connected to your Senator by giving them your state.  Or find their phone and email here. Then tell the nice interns or the nice vm that you would like them to vote No on DeVos. They will take your name and zip and Bob’s your uncle… and hopefully DeVos isn’t our Secretary of Education.

(Due to the volume of calls, you may have to wait a while, to dead air, while the switchboard gets to you.)

IF you live in D.C. or Puerto Rico – and don’t HAVE REPRESENTATION in Congress… Here is A list from Ballotpedia of the Senators on the  United States Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (They are “in charge” of her nomination). Call them and let them know you want to vote NO.

And for those in the crowd who find these situations awkward or unbearable: How to call your reps when you have social anxiety by Echo through the Fog.

But as always – consider the source and make up your own mind:

C-SPAN has DeVos’ entire hearing online.

Article by Vox on excerpts from her hearing and info on her massive donations to the Republican party and her lack of experience with public schools.

Article by The Washington Post on DeVos’ track record in Michigan education.

Article by fivethrityeight detailing the answers she gave during her hearing.

Article on AMNewYork with info on confirmation hearing process and schedule of all nomination hearings.
