Day 53: The REINS Act – Passed the House, Over to Senate, look out American People: Here it Comes!

Day 53 Action:

H.R. 26, The REINS Act: Regulations from the Executive Need of Scrutiny Act of 2017.

It passed the House with 160 (all Republican) co-sponsors and is sitting with the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (who’s hashtag is apparently #CutRedTape).

The bill, introduced by Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), requires Congress to approve all major regulations before they can take effect. And they MUST APPROVE it within 70 days, or it cannot become law.

While the Republicans are touting this as yet another win in their fight to restrain Big Government and to tighten the belt on regulations. The “REINS bill aims instead to paralyze executive branch rule-making that protects public health and safety, the environment, and consumers.” (The Hill)

No one in their right mind (or left) believes that this Congress will pass anything they deem as a win for the Minority party. If they institute a 70-day period to any regulations, all they need do is roadblock for that time period and they will have achieved their goal.

It’s in committee now. Let’s call the members and our representatives and let them know REINS is not an option.
